PAST EVENTS

Here are some pictures of past events we've enjoyed as a club. Note that the large pictures can be quite large (up to 130K or so), which may be time-consuming for a 56K modem.

2007

Fall Party: Once again, "Grampa" Craig hosted the MISC Fall Party in early November. Here are some pictures from that party.

Other pictures from the outdoor skating season: Gerry took a number of pictures of various outdoor skating events.

North Shore Inline Marathon: Here's a collection of pictures from the North Shore Inline Marathon.

Grand Rounds tour on Labor Day: Here are some pictures from skating the Grand Rounds trail system on Labor Day, followed by the regular Monday Recreational Skate.

St. Paul Inline Marathon: Some pictures of our booth at the St. Paul Inline Marathon expo.

Progressive dinner: We had planned to do a progressive dinner on skates. Unfortunately, it rained that evening, so we dispensed with the skating and just had the progressive dinner anyway.

2007 camping trip: Here are some pictures from the second annual camping trip to the Paul Bunyan Trail. I'm told that this trip didn't include the 43-mile death march route that made the 2006 trip so memorable.

"Grampa" Craig turns 80: We celebrated "Grampa" Craig's 80th birthday after a Monday night skate on the Big Rivers trail.

Spring picnic: Here are some pictures from the spring picnic on the Northern Corridor trail in May.

A few pictures from the Dome: Here are some pictures that Gerry took at the Rollerdome in February and March of 2007. And, here are some pictures from the 2007 Metrodome Inline Marathon.

The Great EsSkate: Gerry took a bunch of pictures of us at the Great EsSkate in Miami Beach in early February. And, as a bonus, here are four sets of photos I took while scuba diving before the tour:

2006

Fall Party: "Grampa" Craig hosted the annual fall party at his house located on scenic Minnehaha Creek. Here are the pictures of the party.

2006 outdoor season: These are some pictures from various other events during the 2006 outdoor season.

North Shore Inline Marathon: Here are some pictures before and after the North Shore Inline Marathon. That was the year that it rained, which made for slow times for just about everyone.

St. Paul Inline Marathon: Pictures from the St. Paul Inline Marathon.

Progressive Dinner: We did a progressive dinner on skates, starting at St. Anthony Main and crossing into downtown Minneapolis for appetizers, dinner, and desserts.

Hyland Lake Park Reserve: A few pictures from a day trip to Hyland Lake Park Reserve and a new trail built along East Bush Lake Road. We decided not to go down the steep hill that leads to a railroad crossing.

Northern Corridor: Just a few pictures from a Monday evening recreational skate on the Northern Corridor trail.

Big Apple Roll: Bill, Gerry, and Paul took a trip to New York City for the Big Apple Roll.

Camping trip: Kim and Chuck hosted a camping trip at their cabin near the Paul Bunyan Trail. Here are the pictures. One day of skating went for 43 miles, which may have been a little ambitious.

Spring picnic: Here are some pictures from our annual spring picnic at Elm Creek Park Reserve. Karl and Gina decided to give Bill some special recognition as posessing the last car without cup holders (see in picture #9).

Earth Day: We did our annual Adopt-A-Trail day on Earth Day in April 2006. Here are a few pictures from that cleanup.

Pictures from the Dome: Here are some pictures Gerry took at the Rollerdome in winter 2006.

Great EsSkate: Here are some pictures from the Great EsSkate in Miami Beach.

2005

Tour of Leaves: On Sunday, October 9, 2005, we did some biking along some trails in the Plymouth area. We checked out the four-mile paved section of the Luce Line Trail, as well as the west side of Medicine Lake, the system of trails (and city streets) that connects from there to Fish Lake Regional Park, and then some trails in French Regional Park and the east side of Medicine Lake. Here are some pictures.

North Shore Inline Marathon: We put a few skaters on the podium at the North Shore Inline Marathon this year. Others of our group just went out to eat. Here's the evidence.

Skating on the new runway: On September 22, 2005, we got the rare chance to skate on an airport runway. Runway 17/35 at MSP is finished but not yet open to air traffic, so Doug Kelley arranged an afternoon for us to skate on it. Here are some pictures from skating the runway.

Zephyr Skate Tour with Eddy Matzger: I went on the Zephyr Adventures tour with Eddy Matzger on September 18-22, 2005 and had a fantastic time with Eddy's clinics, as well as his great sense of humor and the enjoyable company of the guides and the other participants of the tour. I've posted pictures of the trip at this link.

Progressive Dinner: We did a progressive dinner on skates. Our route started with drinks at St. Anthony Main, then progressing across the Stone Arch Bridge into downtown, with appetizers, dinner, and then dessert. I bet you want to see the pictures, too.

2004

Pictures from the dome: Gerry contributed some pictures she took in the Rollerdome in the winter of 2004.

Snowshoeing: Here are some pictures from a a snowshoe expedition on the Minnesota River bottoms in February 2004.

Gerry's birthday: I took a few pictures from Gerry's birthday celebration in March, 2004.

2003

MISC Fall Party: Here are some pictures from our fall party held in November, 2003, at "Grampa" Craig's house.

North Shore pictures posted: I've posted a few pictures from the North Shore Inline Marathon, 2003, at this link. I don't have any pictures of the actual marathon -- these are pictures from a little birthday party we had for Gina, and some pictures from the Jelly Roll on Sunday.

Congratulations to Gerry Vangen for her second place finish in her age group in the fitness race, and to Joan Gregg for her first place finish in her age group in the recreational race. No congratulations to the Lake County Highway Department for their repairs on County Road 61, especially for the tar snake that took me down in mile 1.

Banning camping pictures posted: Pictures from the camping trip to Banning State Park are posted at this link. We went up to the park in mid-August, 2003, and skated the Munger Trail, as well as doing some hiking.

Snowshoeing at William O'Brien State Park: We went snowshoeing at William O'Brien State Park on February 8.

Greg and Vicki's wedding: Greg Kelcher and Vicki Pietruszewski were married on June 7, 2003, at the Historic Church of St. Boniface in Hastings. Here's a picture of the happy couple:

Or, click here for pictures from Joe's Jelly Roll (the Northern Inline Skaters' Sunday fun skate) on September 15, 2002. Or, if you want, check out one set of pictures first and then come back to view the other set.

Cannon Valley Camping Trip: We went to the Cannon Valley Trail again and camped out, and had plenty of fun.

Grandpa Craig's birthday: The club celebrated member "Grandpa" Craig Alexander's birthday in style, featuring no less than four cakes. Click here for pictures from his birthday.

Earth Day: Here are some pictures from our first Adopt-A-Trail day on the Cedar Lake Trail on Earth Day, April 2002.

Snowshoeing: We went snowshoeing at Banning State Park in March 2002. If I remember right, that was the only place in the state that had much snow.

2001

Holidazzle Parade: Some members of our group, as well as a few people from Robichon's Inline Skate School, skated in the Holidazzle Parade in November 2001. Click here for the Holidazzle pictures.

North Shore Inline Marathon: Here are a few pictures taken after the North Shore Inline Marathon. We had a cheering squad that went to the hardware store beforehand.

Memorial skate for "Big Mike": Mike Barrett was a member of our club for several years. He passed away in the fall of 1999, and he's been missed. We skated in memory of him on August 9, 2001. Click here for pictures of the event.

Cannon Valley camping trip: On June 8-10, 2001, we camped out at the Hidden Valley campground along the Cannon Valley trail, and skated the trail that Saturday afternoon. Click here for pictures of the event.

Skiing and snowshoeing: In two separate events, we went skiing at Afton Alps and snowshoeing in Chaska. The snowshoeing was a famous trip because we ended up hiking much further out than we ever expected.

2000

Halloween skate 2000:
You can check out the pictures of the Halloween 2000 costume skate here.

Tour of Leaves:
On Saturday October 14, 2000, we returned to the Cannon Valley Trail to skate the trail and view the spectacular fall color display.  The weather was nice, and the colors were beautiful. You can see the Cannon Valley photos here. Be aware that the pictures are big (at least 100K each), so they'll be slow on a modem.

Camping trip to Jay Cooke State Park another success:
Our second camping trip to Jay Cooke State Park in early September, 2000 was a lot of fun.  Despite the rain Saturday morning, we went out hiking along the St. Louis River.  The group split up Saturday afternoon: some went skating, while others went mountain biking.  The mountain biking was a blast -- everyone who went had a lot of fun.  After a delicious dinner Saturday evening and a hearty breakfast Sunday morning, most of us went on to skate the Munger Trail into Duluth.  Thanks to Gerry Vangen for organizing this. Click here for pictures of the event.

Camping trip to Cannon Falls:
In July, 2000, we went to the Cannon Valley Trail between Cannon Falls and Red Wing. We skated that Saturday afternoon and camped out. The next morning, some of our group went biking, while others slept in and waited for breakfast.  Click here for the pictures

Friday Night Skate: Here are some pictures from one of our first few Friday Night Skate events in downtown Minneapolis.
